CLUB NIX 143: What Curaçao Taught Me About Music

When people think about electronic music, they often think about energy. Big festivals. Packed clubs. Huge moments.

Curaçao taught me something different.

Sometimes music works best when nothing is competing with it. No schedules. No rush. No pressure to be somewhere else. Just good music, warm air and enough time to let a record unfold.

That feeling stayed with me.

And looking back, I can hear it throughout CLUB NIX 143.

Recorded live in the open air of Curaçao, this episode captures a different kind of energy. Not the energy of a packed festival stage or a peak-time club set, but something more natural. More relaxed. More connected to the environment around it.

The island has its own rhythm. The days move a little slower. Conversations last a little longer. People seem less concerned with what comes next and more focused on where they are right now.

Music benefits from that.

Instead of rushing towards a big moment, CLUB NIX 143 allows the journey to unfold at its own pace. The opening tracks create space before gradually building momentum through progressive house, melodic house and underground electronic music. Nothing feels forced. Nothing feels hurried. The music simply moves.

That's something I learned during my time in Curaçao.

Not every great moment needs to be planned. Not every great night needs a headline act. And not every great record needs a massive drop.

Sometimes the magic sits in the groove.

In the atmosphere.

In the feeling that everything is unfolding exactly as it should.

As the mix develops, tracks like The Underground, Billy and Turn Up The Juice bring movement and energy without losing that sense of flow. Later, records like Put It On You and the Adriatique remix of In The Moment open things up again, creating space and emotion before the journey comes to an end.

Listening back now, what I remember most isn't a particular transition or track.

It's the feeling.

The warm evening air.

The open space.

The sense that, for a little while, nowhere else mattered.

That's one of the reasons I still love electronic music after all these years. The right record has a way of becoming attached to a place, a moment or a memory. Years later, hearing that same track can take you right back there.

For me, CLUB NIX 143 will always sound a little bit like Curaçao.
